Hello friend,

The first snow has fallen in the places (Scandinavia & New England) I've recently been.  Our world is ever rocked by heartbreak and violence, but as I write you from a house that hums and creaks peacefully, I'm remembering the joy of the concerts and workshops where we've connected strongly through music. Those times of connection have allowed me to keep making songs that anchor us to vividly-felt harmony – harmony that sings against discouragement.  

I’m asking for your support to record a collection of wise, tender folksongs. I'm calling this album 'The Rhizome Project' because these songs form a root system of musical identity for me in creatively uprooted times. 

Even though I'm an introvert, lonely songwriter and perfectionist-ever-in-recovery, I live for the visceral joy of sharing passionate devotion to harmony, rhythm & meaning between people in a room together. Choral music & folk music have been amazing communities to pursue that joy in!  

Ever in pursuit of trusting collaboration, and in the midst of the Covid strangeness, I got to work with a quartet of string players here in Vermont who brought ferocious musicianship and a wide, visceral palette of sonic textures to my original songs. So, I asked them to join me in creating the sound world of The Rhizome Project here in Vermont.  We'll record in early January and with some very special guests. In early February, I'll mix it all together - as I have ALL my albums - with my brilliant friend, David Weber.

As you know, album-making for an artist providing musical sustenance to a smaller, passionate audience with whom they share unique tastes and sense of community is no longer self-sustaining!  So I'm hoping you might send an album's worth (or lesson's worth) of support in exchange for some creative, musical, 'rhizomic' enticements?

So…yes…I'm attempting to do a ‘kickstarter’ without having to pay them 10%, and this wonderful Bandzoogle site allows me to do that while still allowing digital donations (ie: asking you to write a check…though a check is great(
